Virgin London Marathon

Last years trip winners


Congratulations to everyone who ran the first ever Virgin London Marathon on 25th April, especially all the runners on Richard Branson’s team who have been training hard and fundraising up a storm to support Virgin Unite and our partners! All together Richard, his celebrity team, and Virgin people from around the Group have raised more than £1.5M and counting for amazing causes.

Funds are still being tallied, but in the meantime, check out what some of the runners on Richard's Team 2010 had to say, and enjoy some images from this unforgettable day.

Also, check out Richard’s blog from the day, as well as the race day blog by ‘London Marathon Virgin’ Bob Fear, who ran the marathon in support of Virgin Unite’s charitable partners. Meet the young people benefitting from his fundraising who rallied to help Bob prepare for the big race.

Two entrepreneurs from the Branson School of Entrepreneurship in South Africa recently visited London to speak to business leaders at the Fast Track 100 awards and receive business mentoring from Virgin Holidays and Virgin Games.

Pride 'n PurposeVirgin Unite supports Peace Parks

Virgin Unite has announced it will be supporting The Peace Parks Foundation, a non-profit organisation founded by Nelson Mandela, Price Bernhard of the Netherlands and South African entrepreneur Dr Anton Rupert. Virgin Unite's grant will support the capture and translocation of a number of wildlife species into the Maputo Special Reserve in Mozambique.

Pride 'n PurposeNew Founders join Carbon War Room

The Carbon War Room welcomed three new Founders earlier this month.

This global initiative, incubated and supported by Virgin Unite, harnesses the unique influence, resources and energy of entrepreneurs to unlock market-driven solutions to climate change.

New Founders include Strive Masiyiwa (Econet Wireless), Shelly Meyers (Palisades Management LLC) and Vladas Lašas (Skubios siuntos, Lithuania).

Pride 'n PurposeVirgin Mobile Canada launches ‘The Phone That Does Some Good’

Virgin Mobile Canada, in partnership with Samsung Mobile, has launched the second edition RE*Generation Samsung Link! Ten dollars from the sale of each phone will be donated directly to the RE*Generation campaign benefitting at-risk and homeless youth.

To celebrate the launch of the phone, and raise awareness for the RE*Generation movement, Virgin Mobile Canada has also partnered with Virgin Unite to organise a benefit concert, the third in the RE*Generation series, featuring Canadian rock sensation The Trews. The concert will be held at Toronto’s Opera House on 27th May.

2010 Staff Connection Trip

Congratulations to this year’s Connection Trip team, who have just returned from a week of hands on volunteering in South Africa in the community surrounding Ulusaba, Richard’s private game reserve. The group raised more than £12k and created a new football pitch, planted a vegetable garden and painted a beautiful World Cup themed mural, among other projects.

Richard honoured by Synergos

Earlier this month, Richard received the 2010 David Rockefeller Bridging Leadership Award from the Synergos organisation in New York. The awards dinner brought together distinguished leaders from around the world for a special ‘University for a Night’ series of discussions about global poverty and other critical social issues.
