Virgin Blue is very proud to have recently joined with the Day of Difference Foundation - a charitable organisation dedicated to working for critically injured children and their families - as the Foundation's official airline for the next three years.
Founded in 2004, the Day of Difference Foundation was established by the Delezio family, whose daughter Sophie was critically injured in horrific circumstances when a car crashed into her day care centre in 2003. Sophie was only 2 ½ years old. Sophie was again hit by a car two years later whilst being pushed in her wheelchair across a pedestrian crossing.
Through the eyes of the Delezio family and the many families starting their own difficult journey that the Foundation visits each year, the Day of Difference not only supports the Children’s hospitals nationally with urgently needed medical equipment, but focuses on supporting the family unit in the most difficult time of their life.
The Foundation also works together with sponsors and donors to build a community of support for all children and their families who are struggling with life changing critical injuries.
During the past four years it has raised $7.7 million to help make a significant contribution to the survival and recovery of critically injured children.
Considering that throughout Australia over 60,000 children are seriously injured each year, the work the Foundation is doing is vital in saving young lives both now and well into the future.
