Actor Christian Slater returns to South Africa

Actor Christian Slater returns to South Africa, 16 April, 2009 to visit the new classroom built at the Jeremiah Crèche, which he, Richard Branson and guests of Ulusaba and Leopard Hill’s Lodge jointly funded. The crèche will benefit over 60 disadvantaged children living in the communities adjacent to the reserve.

Christian bought with him toys and shoes kindly donated by Viacom and Puma which the children loved! Whilst at the crèche Christian met with the teachers and members of the local community.

In 2007 Christian and his son travelled to Ulusaba where they tracked the ‘Big Five’, relaxed in the peaceful surroundings and set out to learn more about the nearby communities. He was deeply moved and touched by Pride 'n Purpose and their commitment to the local community after encountering the daily lives of the Shangaan people firsthand. Subsequently, Christian donated his home video of their safari experience, enabling Ulusaba to produce a charity DVD “Our Safari Diary” to raise money for Pride n’ Purpose.

“Watching this classroom come to life after years of planning is truly gratifying,” said Slater. “Access to education is essential to improving the lives of disadvantaged children and I am thrilled to see what has been achieved in the community in just the past two years. This speaks volumes about the dedication and the heart of Ulusaba’s staff and Virgin Unite.”
