CARBON WAR ROOM - Research Associates and Special Assistants

The Carbon War Room is an NGO founded by Richard Branson to identify and implement market-based solutions to climate change at scale. The WarRoom is harnessing the power of entrepreneurs and working with leaders to end business-as-usual.

The War Room fulfills a critical strategic role in monitoring all areas affecting climate change and identifying areas that need resources and implementation support. There is both an Operations arm of the Carbon War Room, focused on implementation, and an Intelligence arm of the Carbon War Room, focused on strategic information gathering, monitoring and modeling. The Intelligence Team tracks the 25 battle areas that each annually account for over 1 billion tons (gigatons) of C02e emissions globally. For more information on Carbon War Room battles, visit: www.carbonwarroom.com

The War Room is offering Research Associate and Special Assistant positions to high-caliber graduate students in MBA, Master's, or PhD programs.

Research Associates have a unique opportunity to work with world-class leaders and entrepreneurs to develop and apply expertise in one of the 25 action areas that the War Room has identified as critical in the fight against climate change.

Associates gain access to the Carbon WarRoom's extensive network of business leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, and academics, as well as interacting with the War Room Executive Team.

Each Associate is responsible for preparing a report that internally informs both the War Room's Operations Team and Executive Board. Associates' reports are also circulated externally to the investor, business and policy communities.

In preparing reports, the Research Associates work closely with the Carob War Room's Director of Research. Associates are expected to conduct interviews with experts and help asseble an expert panel to review the report, to participate in weekly team calls, and to demonstrate a high level of expertise.

The role of Research Associate is a unique experience for motivated and talented students interested in developing expertise relevant to the post-carbon economy. This is an opportunity to develop and demonstrate expertise, establish a reputation, and build your network, while contributing to the War Room's critical mission.

Research Associates are paid a stipend of $2,000 and in addition may receive support to attend relevant conferences and War Room events and convenings.

New Research Associates will be invited to join the War Room in February 2010 and be expected to commit through the end of the Spring Quarter (June 12, 2010).

Those interested in being involved with the War Room but unable to make the 100-hour commitment required of Research Associates (approximately eight hours per week) should still consider involvement as Special Assistants to the Operations team.

Special Assistants have the opportunity to take on smaller support projects, working closely with the Operations Team and focusing on implementation of solutions.

If interested in joining the Carbon War Room as a Research Associate, Special Assistant (for Operations), or an Intern for the Winter and Spring 2010 quarters please submit a resume and a 150-word description of your background and reason for interest. The subject line of your email should indicate the position of interest as either: Application / Special Assiatant or Application / Research Associate.
