Business as a Force for Good

Virgin South Africa operates six core businesses: Virgin Active, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Life Care, Virgin Limited Edition (Ulusaba), Virgin Mobile and Virgin Money. As well as individual initiatives like the Branson Centre in Johannesburg and Pride ‘n Purpose, based in the community surrounding Ulusaba, staff also get involved in the various Virgin Unite campaigns throughout the year, including World Aids Day and Mandela Day.

Virgin Money - SA

Virgin Money

They’re a small team at Virgin Money South Africa so are always thinking carefully about how to best maximize their impact. Staff are always involved in whatever initiative they are driving.

They look for opportunities to pool their small resources together with bigger ones, so that they are part of a meaningful contribution to fulfill real and pressing need.

Virgin Mobile

Virgin Mobile

They embrace the African philosophy of Ubuntu which means: “I am what I am because of who we all are.” It’s the idea that if they can assist communities and staff in being fulfilled then everyone will benefit.

In this way, they feel that it is their responsibility and privilege as a business to assist the communities they do business in, as well as the environment.

Virgin Limited Edition

Virgin Limited Edition is an award-winning collection of unique holiday retreats, chosen for their beautiful locations and magnificent surroundings.

They put consulting with local communities at the core of everything they do. Their philosophy is that the best way to help people out of poverty is to empower them to help themselves. This means prioritising sustainable development initiatives and improving access to food, water and health services.

Virgin Life Care

They aim to change people’s unhealthy lifestyles and improve their lives. The idea is to give people the tools they need to lead healthy lives themselves.

Virgin Life Care gives people living in townships the opportunity to harvest their own fruit and vegetables by transforming vacant land into areas where they can grow crops, and also educate them about healthy living.

Virgin Active

Virgin Active

Their “product” naturally benefits people’s lives. Donating equipment to township gyms, schools, prisons, old people’s homes and organisations supporting young people, Virgin Active South Africa ensures that its product is accessible to people who would not be able to afford such a facility.

In this way, the business uses its assets to change people’s lives, taking the product to people in the heart of their communities.
