Business must be a force for good...

Now, more than ever, the world needs businesses to play a role in tackling  some of the tougher challenges facing our global community. As a catalytic organisation, Virgin Unite has been built in  the belief that business can and must be a force for good. Everything we do has this at its core and is very much in line with the David and Goliath spirit that has always been at the heart of the Virgin brand. By working closely to leverage our businesses and the entrepreneurial zeal of our people no giant is too big to confront!  And “united” we will drive  way more change in the world than we ever could on our own.

So just what does the Business Action team at Virgin Unite actually do?

We challenge businesses to behave more responsibly and discover that by so doing they will perform better. We help businesses act in a way that can benefit staff, customers and society at large. The consumers of tomorrow will demand it. We act as a consultancy to  business friends around the world as well as the Virgin companies to help them:

• Gather insight into global best practices related to business as a force for good

• Provide training and development packages to unlock their full potential to be a force for good

• Use their business as a force for good in the world and in their communities

• To discover how doing good is good for morale and good for business

We offer a number of services:

• Research and insight

• Impact measurement

• Strategy creation and asset mapping

• Best practice sharing

• Strategic partnerships

• Staff and customer engagement

“From a personal development perspective, the programme has given me so much. I’ve opened up to people in a way that I wouldn’t normally get the opportunity to. I’ve developed my communication skills. And it’s given me a new group of great friends.”

Tom Heyes, Campaign Manager, Virgin Money

“I help with Oasis because sometimes something bad can happen in your life which then snowballs and becomes out of control. You enter a spiral of decline and it seems like there is no way to turn the corner. Anything we can do to help break these negative cycles or just break up the day is positive, whether it’s a chat over breakfast, offering money tips or providing clothes for a job interview."

Sally Leighton, Commercial Analyst at Virgin Money

"Being given the opportunity to be involved in Virgin Unite is a very special thing. Focusing all our efforts on the worthy cause of youth homelessness, and witnessing how our personal contribution is serving and helping others first hand, gives you a real sense of purpose. You really learn about strength and resilience of the human spirit being involved in Virgin Unite."

Sheridan Boggiano, Brand Manager, Virgin Mobile Australia

“In this very moment, there are people only you can reach…and differences only you can make. Virgin Unite seems to be able to bring those people together and get those differences to happen.”

Natasha Burns, Virgin Australia

“We believe every business has the potential to be a force for good,”

Amanda Wills, Managing Director, Virgin Holidays

“Over the years Virgin Atlantic has been able to make a difference to children around the world through the generosity of its passengers and the varied and determined fundraising efforts of our staff,”

Julie Southern, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Holidays

“Here at Virgin Wines, we are committed to supporting local communities. We do this largely by finding small, undiscovered winemakers to profile their talents and their skills. We find that it’s a win-win situation as, at the same time, it allows us to bring our customers great tasting wines of exceptional quality.”

Louise Truswell, PR Executive, Virgin Wines

“Virgin Unite has been an active and enthusiastic supporter of our Marathon sponsorship and committed a lot of time and effort to maximise the amount of money raised across the group from the Virgin London Marathon. The team at Unite have also been ardent supporters of Virgin Money Giving since day one and our joint charity relationships and initiatives have been mutually beneficial for our businesses and those of our charity partners.”
Jo Barnett, Executive Director, Virgin Money Giving

“Our purpose is to enrich people’s lives through activeness. That means that we are inclusive, sustainable, non-judgemental and we support our local communities. The consumption of our product has a very positive impact for both individuals and our wider society – social and environmental activities are a natural extension of that and we see real business benefit from our investment of time and resource in these areas.”

Dom Boon, UK Head of People, Virgin Active
